Counting Down the Days!

It’s finally May! Camp is so close. I hope everyone is getting excited as the school year begins to wind down. There is a lot going on at camp now. Many of the projects you have been reading about all season are finished or are being finished.

The mini-golf course work was completed late last month. The maintenance crew planted some brand new plants to keep the course looking beautiful. These plants have already started to take a good hold and bloom, making the course look better than it ever has. The holes themselves are as difficult as they were last summer. Do you think you’ll be able to get a hole-in-one on every hole by the time camp ends?

The boys’ gaga courts will look different this summer too. The aging wooden walls are now made out of the same composite wood material the porches are made from. In addition to the new walls, bleachers, designed after the Coliseum seating, have been built. The boys’ pavilion now has seating for about 40 people just on the bleachers. The smaller boys’ gaga court, right next to it, will have seating for 12. The bleachers and already existing roofs will make these courts a great place for many activities beyond gaga.

Last month, we finished our work on the Large Diamond. The field is now official Little League size. The dugout was also completely demolished to make room for a new one. Now it is completed and looks great. The dugout is larger, with a higher roof allowing you to see everything from your seat. We also took out the metal poles that supported the previous roof. The combination of the redone field and dugout would make any baseball player feel right at home.

Just this week we started putting up the brand new glass backboards in the hockey courts. These backboards are the same as the ones in Lumar Hall. We have begun doing roof work on the hockey courts in order to add more support for the glass backboards. The new backboards should give the hockey courts a new and improved look. Work has also started on the vegetable garden. Soon Jay Gorodetzer will plant everything you’ll get to work with and eat this summer. The garden has looked great every year since it started and this summer should be no different. The maintenance crew is also putting down the second coat on the totally refinished dining hall floor. The first coat made the dining hall look huge and brand new. The second can only make it better.

There are still some more things camp is going to finish before your arrival. The spinning program is nearly complete. Uncle Speedy has hired a professional spin instructor to come up to camp and train our counselors. What a great program that will be! Make sure to check the twitter page for pictures of Aeroball. As the pieces of that game begin to come together, we’ll post pictures so you can check on the progress.

As you can see, so much goes into making your summer great. See you very soon.

Happy May Birthday!
